Church History Book Launch/Alliance Historical Society Annual Meeting
After two years of working on the history of Union Avenue United Methodist Church, a book is ready to be published. The book, “This Is Our Story: A History of Union Avenue Church,” will be the subject of the annual membership meeting program on Wednesday, November 30 at 6:30 p.m. Alliance Historical Society president and Union Avenue historian, Karen Perone, will give the presentation.
The book includes stories of interesting items uncovered during the research for the book, including the start of the congregation in 1832, Mt. Union founders, a circuit rider who inspired a Disney film, women of note, and the problem with pigeons. The 17 sections in addition to the main history include biographies of all ministers, music and worship highlights, timelines of events, and many photographs from the church archives.
All are invited to learn about this historic church in the Mt. Union community, located at 1843 S. Union Avenue. A short business meeting will be held at 6:30 with the presentation to follow. Copies of the book will be available to purchase at the program for $10.
